Tumescent liposuction may not require general anesthesia (which makes you sleep through the procedure). However, this is somewhat to be discussed with your surgeon and this will normally depend on whether you feel comfortable under an LA and or the amount of areas of your body that the procedure will cover are concentrated in one small area or you are wanting more than one area covered and the time for the procedure is lengthy. 

    As an example: You may need inner and outer arms and inner and outer thighs liposuctioned. This may be a 3 hour procedure and so a LA will probably not be recommended by your surgeon.  But if you are just taking your ankles liposuctioned and the process takes an hour, your surgeon may recommend LA.

•          Ultrasound-assisted liposuction. This technique uses ultrasound to liquefy   the fat, which makes it easier to remove. This procedure may be mainly   helpful in eliminating fat from the neck, upper abdomen, sides, and back.
•          Laser-assisted liposuction. This technique uses low-energy waves to   liquefy the fat, which is removed through a small cannula.

POST SURGERY:  WHAT TO EXPECT

Liposuction does not give an immediate result.  Your body may take up some months to actually alter to your final look.  It is essential that you follow your surgeon's recommendation in regards to compression garments.  These will need to be worn for a certain period after surgery to help in the final result.  

After liposuction, it is necessityfor you to adjust your eating and exercise plan to make sure that your new look is retained.  If you have a tendency to eat large amounts of bad foods and drinks, then you will put the weight back on, unless you adjust your diet and exercise accordingly.  

Remember, the main purpose of liposuction is to reshape one or more areas of your body, not to reduce huge amounts of body weight. Liposuction is normally used on "problem" areas that have not reacted well to diet and exercise.
